The end of a long ride

Huntington County resident Stan Bippus dips the front tire of his bicycle in the Mississippi River after completing last month's RAGBRAI (the Register's Great Annual Bicycle Ride Across Iowa). This was the 41st year for the week-long ride across Iowa, which drew 20,253 bicycle riders when it took off from Council Bluffs, IA, on July 21. The riders traditionally dip their back tires in the Missouri River at the start of the ride and their front tires in the Mississippi River at the end. The 406.6-mile ride ended July 27 in Fort Madison, IA.
