Eight volunteers with Teen Court of Huntington County participated in the State Teen Court Conference July 16-17 in Goshen.
The conference provided ways for youth to develop their skills as leaders and role models. The youth also learned about substance abuse and the court system. Five of the local volunteers participated in mock hearings.
Those attending were Morgan McNally, Becca Okuly, Ellie Scheiber, Jacob Mellendorf, Tori Rice, Alex Rittenhouse and Breanna Rittenhouse.
Teen Court, coordinated by the Youth Services Bureau, is a program for first-time juvenile offenders as an alternative to the juvenile justice system. Volunteers ages 12-17 serve as attorneys and jury members. Stephanie Skiver serves as Teen Court coordinator.
Anyone interested in learning about serving as a Teen Court volunteer is invited to attend an informational meeting on Aug. 20 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Youth Services Bureau. For more information, call the Youth Services Bureau at 356-9681 or email email@example.com.
