Leon M. Kilander, 91, of Marion, IN, and having family members in Warren, IN, died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013, at 11:35 p.m. at Hospice Home, Fort Wayne.
Mr. Kilander was the president of the first graduating class of Jackson Township High School, graduating in 1938. He farmed in Wells County and was a former DeKalb Seed dealer. He was a member of the Wells County 4-H Association, a former Democrat precinct committeeman, a former member of the Dillman United Brethren in Christ Church and a current member of the Asbury United Methodist Church. He served as a Sunday school teacher and board member for both churches.
He was born Jan. 26, 1922, in Jackson township, Wells County, to Guy A. and Delpha Nelson Kilander. He married Mary D. Green on April 21, 1951, at the McNatt United Methodist Church parsonage. His wife preceded him in death.
Survivors include two sons, Leon M. (Louella) Kilander Jr. and Robert M. Kilander, both of Marion; a daughter, Deborah D. Kilander, of Portland; two grandchildren, David L. (Megan) Kilander, of Warren, and Lisa A. (Nathan) Boxell, of Poneto; and three great-grandsons.
Calling is Sunday, Feb. 17, 2013, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Glancy-H. Brown & Son Funeral Home, 203 N. Matilda St., Warren. A service will be held at the funeral home on Monday, Feb. 18, 2013, at 2 p.m., with Rev. Phil Freel officiating. Interment will follow at the Asbury Cemetery, Jackson Township, Wells County.
