Rev. John M. Whitcraft, 96, of Winona Lake, IN, and having ties to Huntington County, IN, died Tuesday evening, April 30, 2013, at Grace Village in Winona Lake.
Rev. Whitcraft served in World War II as a private in the United States Army. He worked at DeWalt Corp. in Lancaster, PA, until enrolling at Bethany Seminary in Chicago, IL, in 1952. He earned a bachelor's degree from Manchester College in 1953 and a Master of Divinity from Bethany Seminary in 1959.
He served as a part-time pastor at the Clear Creek Church of the Brethren, Huntington County, and in Roann, and served as a full-time pastor in Liberty Mills, Muncie, Silver Lake and New Paris, in Indiana, and at New Lebanon, OH.
He was born March 19, 1917, near Lititz, PA, to Elmer and Edna Weaver Whitcraft. He married Mary Pauline Redcay on Jan. 1, 1940, and she survives.
Additional survivors include three daughters, Brenda (Chuck) Petry, of Fort Wayne; Faye (Larry) Jagger, of Winona Lake; and Pam (Duane) Metzger, of Leesburg; two sons, Jim (Jane) Whitcraft, of Hoagland, and Scott (Crystal) Whitcraft, of Wausau, WI; a sister, Margaret Whitcraft, of Lititz, PA; 17 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held on Saturday, May 4, 2013, at Grace Village, Winona Lake. Burial was at Oaklawn Cemetery, North Manchester.
