DeVonna Margaret Byrd, 89, of Warren, IN, died on Thursday, Jan. 9, 2014, at 12:45 a.m. at Heritage Pointe, Warren.
Mrs. Byrd graduated from Bippus High School in 1942. She was a former employee of Wabash Magnetics and Square D Company both in Huntington. She was a past member of Evangelical United Methodist Church, Huntington and a member of the Bunco Club, Kappa Sigma Tau Sorority Chapter, past president of the Home Economics Club of Huntington, VFW Ladies Auxiliary and the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.
She was born March 11, 1924, in Huntington, to Carl Oliver and Hazel Bippus Rupley. She married Rex H. Byrd on April 26, 1942, in Huntington. He preceded her in death on Aug. 5, 2001.
Surviving are a son, William (Carol) Byrd, of Huntington; a daughter, Connie McDaniel, of Huntington; a half-brother and a half-sister; five grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
Calling is Monday, Jan. 13, 2014, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson St., Huntington. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home, with calling one hour prior. Rev. Jeff Luetrell will officiate. Burial will be in Pilgrims Rest Cemetery, Huntington.
