Rev. Stanley Peters, 91, of Huntington, died Monday, June 9, 2014, at 6:29 a.m. at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne.
Rev. Peters graduated from Dillsburg (PA) High School in 1940. He earned a Bachelor of Arts from Huntington College in 1944 and later earned a Bachelor of Divinity from Huntington College Seminary. He was awarded an honorary Doctor of Divinity from Huntington College in 1974. He received a Quarterly Conference ministerial license in 1945 and was ordained in 1950.
He taught junior high and high school students at Clear Creek School, Huntington County, from 1944 to 1946. He served as pastor of United Brethren churches in Fort Wayne, Monroe and Kettering, OH. In 1959, he joined United Brethren Headquarters, in Huntington, as editor of the denomination's publications. He served in that capacity for 23 years, retiring in 1981. Later, he served as a tour guide for the Huntington County Council on Aging.
He was a member of College Park Church, in Huntington. As a member of the Evangelical Press Association, he participated in a tour of the Holy Land hosted by Israel and attended the International Congress on World Evangelism in Switzerland.
He was born Feb. 19, 1923, in Hagerstown, MD, to J. Clair and Grace Rouzer Peters. He married Lola Lee Stites on June 6, 1945, in Hillsdale, MI, and she survives.
Additional survivors include two daughters, Renee Larkins, of Dayton, OH, and Jacalee (Mike) Skeens, of Huntington; a son, Randy (Lona) Peters, of Locksburg, AR; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Calling is Wednesday, June 11, 2014, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford St., Huntington. A service will be held on Thursday, June 12, 2014, at 10 a.m. at College Park United Brethren Church, 1945 College Ave., Huntington. Interment will be at Gardens of Memory Cemetery, Huntington County.
