The Huntington North High School girls' varsity basketball team couldn't match host Norwell's offensive attack and fell 59-35 on Saturday, Nov. 17.
The Lady Vikings, 0-3, were in an 11-6 hole after the first quarter and were down 27-17 at halftime. The Lady Knights ran up a 23-12 advantage in the third quarter to take a 50-29 lead into the last frame.
Maddie Klender came off the bench for the Lady Vikings to score eight points and grab as many rebounds. Caitlyn Shrock added another eight points and Paige Coolman supplied seven to go with six rebounds. Huntington North's other three starters struggled to find their stroke, shooting a combined two-for-15.
Carlee Harnish led all scorers with 20 points on 6 of 8 shooting. Taylor Wilson contributed 13 points to Norwell's cause and Hanna Smith had 11.
Neither team shot well for the contest. The Lady Vikes hit only 14 of 37 from the field for 37.8 percent, including hitting just 1 of 10 from beyond the arc. A 6 of 17 effort for 35.3 percent at the free-throw line sealed their fate.
Norwell hit 21 of 53 from the field for 39.6 percent. The Lady Knights hit 12 of 16 from the chairty stripe for 75 percent.
Kelsey Hollowell led HNHS with three assists.
In junior varsity action, Huntington North triumphed 26-19.
Ellie Lawson and Rachel Anderson scored five points apiece to lead the team. Aly Grabner and Hannah Stoffel each grabbed seven rebounds to help give the Lady Vikings a 34-18 rebounding advantage on the Lady Knights.
