The Huntington North High School girls' varsity basketball team shot over 60 percent from the field and trounced visiting Richmond, 63-36, to get its first win of the season on Saturday, Dec. 15.
Allyson Trout and Lindsey Foster each scored 17 points on 5 of 8 shooting and Paige Coolman added 10 points by making 4 of 6 for the Lady Vikings, 1-9.
Huntington North took an early lead and shot 68.4 percent on 13 of 19 marksmanship in the first half to build a commanding 35-17 halftime lead. The Lady Vikes added a 9 of 17 effort in the second half to finish at 22 of 36 on the day for a season-best 61.1 percent.
The team's shooting touch also extended to the free throw line, where it made 18 of 24 attempts for 75 percent.
Richmond struggled to find its shot all game. Mackenzie Taylor led the Lady Red Devils with 19 points, but made only 7 of 20 attempts. For the game, the team shot 29.5 percent from the field on a 13 for 44 effort and hit just 3 of 21 shots from beyond the arc.
Maddie Klender led HNHS to a 28-22 rebounding advntage with a game-high six boards, and Trout, Foster and Kelsey Hollowell each notched three assists. Trout also had four steals.
The Huntington North junior varsity also blasted Richmond, 45-8. Madi Canady led all scorers with 13 points on 5 of 6 shooting.
