Huntington resident Kellie Herber recently opened her counseling practice, All Things New: Biblical Pastoral Care & Counseling.
With over 20 years in ministry as a pastor, Herber opened her practice because she felt a need.
"I've lived in Huntington for 11 years and in working and talking with people, I saw an overwhelming need for biblical counseling," she states. "There are wonderful counseling centers here, but if you have to refer someone for biblical counseling, the closest places are in Wabash or Fort Wayne."
Herber completed her Masters in biblical counseling through Trinity Theological Seminary, in Newburgh, and is working on getting her doctorate.
The relationship between her and her clients starts with a strong level of commitment to the process by both parties involved, Herber states.
"I have them sign a commitment agreement, that they will stay faithful to the process," she says. "I don't use any secular material or resources - everything is biblically based."
Currently, Herber says her services include individual, family, pre-marital and marriage counseling.
"I'm also in the process of putting together programs for seminars," she notes. "Topics include anger management, survivors of sexual abuse and forgiveness. For most people, if you dig deep enough, you will find out that one of the common reasons behind their issues is forgiveness of themselves or someone else."
She adds that true transformation can only come via the word of God.
"One of the things I hope to offer by this summer is group therapy," Herber says. "I would also like to see this practice grow by working with other pastors and therapists in the community."
She adds that one of her real passions is working with women and that expansion of the practice would allow her more time to focus on this area.
"I just have a heart for this community to see it change and to help others who are struggling to find change by having a deeper relationship with God," Herber states.
All Things New is open Monday to Friday by appointment only.

The practice is located at 1316 Flaxmill Rd., Huntington, in the WorkOne building.
