Lancaster Elementary School held its 2012-13 spelling bee on the afternoon of Wednesday, Jan. 9.
Layla Martz, daughter of James Martz and Stephanie Martz, was the winner.
She correctly spelled "subsequent."
Martz is 10 and a fifth grade student in Bevan Brauchla's classroom.
Merrill Ballinger, daughter of Bryan and Jennifer Ballinger, was the runner-up.
Ballinger is 11 and a fifth grade student in Bevan Brauchla's classroom.
