The Huntington North High School boys' varsity basketball team got outscored 21-0 by host Kokomo in the first quarter of their game on Friday, Feb. 1, and not even 32 points by Noah Reed could bring the Vikings back as they fell 72-58.
The Vikings equaled the Wildkats' point production in the second and third quarters, scoring 15 and 17 points, respectively, and outscored them 26-19 in the game's final frame, but the damage had already been done as the Vikes fell to 9-9 on the season overall, 2-3 in the North Central Conference.
Reed's big point total came on 10 of 16 shooting, which included a 6 for 9 performance from beyond the arc, and a perfect 6 for 6 effort at the free-throw line.
No other Viking scored in double figures and the team shot 43.1 percent for the game on a 19 for 44 showing.
Kokomo's offensive attack was more balanced as four players reached double figures, headed by LaBradford Sebree and Taylor Persons' 19-point games. Hakim Burnett and Erick Bowen each netted 10 points.
Kokomo, 15-2, canned 32 of 55 shots in the contest for 58.1 percent.
The Wildkats outscored the Vikings, 17-0, in points off of turnovers.
The Vikings' junior varisty also fell, 47-29.
Derek Snyder led HNHS with nine points. Konner Platt added six.
