Fae Elizabeth Carter, 92, of Columbia City, IN, and having family members in Huntington County, IN, died Tuesday, March 26, 2013, at 12:30 a.m. at Miller's Merry Manor, Columbia City.
She and her husband farmed for many years and she later worked as a nurse's aide at Whitley County Hospital. She earned her licensed practical nurse certification while living in Gainesville, FL, and worked at a hospital there. She also did private duty nursing.
She had been a member of Cornerstone Wesleyan Church, Merriam, for more than 20 years, serving as a Sunday school teacher at the church and as a teacher's aide at Cornerstone Christian School. She was a member of the Red Hat Society.
She was born April 27, 1920, in Fort Wayne to Ruben Clyde Sr. and Veronica Elizabeth Ness Butler. She married Ralph B. Carter Sr. on March 11, 1937, in Warsaw. He preceded her in death on Dec. 30, 1976.
Survivors include two sons, Larry P. Carter, of Roanoke, and Ralph B. (Marcia) Carter, of Columbia City; a daughter, Stella Egolf, of Huntington; two sons-in-law, Mahlon Peters, of Churubusco, and David Perry, of Alabama; a daughter-in-law, Barbara Carter, of Roanoke; 25 grandchildren; 60 great-grandchildren; and 22 great-great-grandchildren.
Calling is Thursday, March 28, 2013, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home, Churubusco. A service will be held on Friday, March 29, 2013, at 11 a.m., with calling one hour prior to the service, at the Cornerstone Wesleyan Church Merriam. Interment will be Friday, March 29, 2013, at 2 p.m. at the South Whitley Cemetery.
