The Huntington County Community Foundation announces that Aleesha Gamble, Abigail Hoffman, Lindsay McElhaney, Angela Sober, Ana Wenning and Mariah Zumbrun have been awarded 2013 James and Nancy Breiner Family Scholarships.
Gamble, a 2011 graduate of Huntington North High School, is currently attending Ball State University majoring in elementary education.
She is the daughter of Pamela and James Gamble, of Huntington.
At BSU, Gamble has continued to be involved in Habitat for Humanity, as well as volunteering at the Boys & Girls Club and the Ross Recreation Center in Muncie.
Hoffman, a 2011 graduate of Huntington North, is currently attending Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne, majoring in art education.
She is the daughter of Deanne and Mark Hoffman, of Huntington.
A three-year employee of The Party Shop, Hoffman is currently volunteering at the YMCA teaching art in the Kids Corner.
McElhaney, a 2011 graduate of Huntington North, is currently attending Anderson University majoring in elementary education with a minor in early childhood.
She is the daughter of Jeana and Douglas McElhaney, of Huntington.
At Anderson, McElhaney is a resident assistant and human resources office secretary.
Sober, a graduating senior from Huntington North, will be attending Indiana State University majoring in special education.
She is the daughter of Rose and Richard Sober, of Huntington.
In high school, Sober was involved in class and student councils and Service Club. Her volunteer activities included Habitat for Humanity, Special Olympics and the Huntington County Humane Society.
Wenning, a graduating senior from Huntington North, will be attending Indiana Wesleyan University majoring in elementary education.
She is the daughter of Rachel and John Wenning, of Huntington.
A National Honor Society member, Wenning was involved in Varsity Singers, Concert Choir, Future Educators of America, Youth Leadership Academy and a gold medalist in ISSMA district and state competitions. Her volunteer efforts included Children's Choir, YMCA camp, algebra tutoring and a mission trip to Haiti.
Zumbrun, a graduating senior from Huntington North, will be attending Grace College majoring in elementary education/special education.
She is the daughter of Teresa and Melvin Zumbrun, of Warren.
A National Honor Society member, her high school career included playing tennis, volleyball and basketball. She was awarded a Scholastics Art Silver Key in a regional competition that included 50 counties. Her volunteer experience included Bible school and a soup kitchen.
Jim and Nancy Breiner established the Breiner Scholarship. It is awarded to a Huntington North or Northfield High School graduate or graduating senior with priority going to an education major.
