The streets of downtown Roanoke will come to life with a block party on the first Friday of each month during the summer.
The initial Roanoke First Friday Street Fair will be held this Friday, June 7, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. in downtown Roanoke.
Main Street will be closed off for old-fashioned carnival games including hula hoop contests, duck races, cake walks and more sponsored by local merchants.
Burgers, hot dogs, brats, popcorn, cookies and ice cream will be available.
A free community yoga class will be offered by Powers of One at 5:30 p.m. Donations will benefit the SPCA.
Bc Fuzzz, a Fort Wayne area band, will provide the music for the evening on June 7. The trio is pure improvisation, performing its take on songs by artists as diverse as Stevie Wonder, Sting, the Beatles and the Rolling Stones.
Bc Fuzzz performs regularly at Club Soda in downtown Fort Wayne and will also be featured at Fort Wayne Ribfest on June 14.
The July 5 event will feature local teen bands competing for prizes. Bands scheduled so far include Barking Green Lamms and Pace of Change. Other groups can enter the contest by calling Moose & Mollie's Gelato and Ice Cream Shop at 672-2020.
The block party is sponsored by Moose & Mollie's Gelato and Ice Cream Shop.
