United States Marine Corps Sgt. Timothy McCoy, of Roanoke, is serving as a training noncommissioned officer with the Special-Purpose Marine Air-Ground Task Force (MAGTF) Africa unit.
Marines and sailors with the Special-Purpose MAGTF Africa unit recently completed a training session with Uganda People's Defense Force soldiers who will deploy to Somalia later this year.
During the June 25 exercise, McCoy evaluated the Uganda soldiers as they responded to a mock IED explosion at the Peace Support Operations Training Center-Singo, in Kakola, Uganda.
A graduation ceremony for the Uganda soldiers was held following the training exercise.
Since deploying in January, the Special-Purpose MAGTF Africa unit has trained more than 800 African service members, including 310 Uganda People's Defense Force soldiers.
