Richard L. Hirons, 78, died Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014, at 11:16 a.m. at Heritage Pointe, in Warren, IN.
Mr. Hirons, a former resident of Bluffton and Van Buren, graduated from Hartford City High School in 1953. He served in the Hartford City unit of the Army National Guard. He was employed by General Motors, in Marion, for 40 years, retiring in 1996. He was a member of the Van Buren United Methodist Church and Life Community Church, in Bluffton.
He was born Feb. 8, 1935, in Anderson to Edward Paine and Ruby Hatton, and was adopted by John and Eva Monroe Hirons. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marie Nash Hirons, and is survived by his current wife, Connie Hirons.
Additional survivors include four daughters, Penny (Chuck) Slayton, of Fort Wayne; Sherry (Charlie) Barnes, of Bluffton; Catrena (Kevin) Taylor, of Toledo, OH; and Lori (Todd) Johnson, of Mesa, AZ; two sons, Rob Caylor, of Montpelier, and Jonathan (Melissa) Caylor, of Oklahoma City, OK; two grandsons, Andrew Slayton and Luke Slayton, both of Fort Wayne; 14 stepgrandchildren; and seven stepgreat-grandchildren.
Calling is Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2014, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Glancy-H. Brown & Son Funeral Home, 203 N. Matilda St., Warren. A service will be held on Thursday, Feb. 6, 2014, at 1 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall of Van Buren United Methodist Church, 108 S. 2nd St., Van Buren. Rev. Jerry Qualls and Rev. Leon Pomeroy will officiate. Interment will be at the Van Buren Cemetery, in Van Buren.
