Lady Vikes edge Homestead in first round at volleyball sectional

The Huntington North High School varsity volleyball team edged Homestead in five games on Thursday, Oct. 18, in the opening round of the Fort Wayne South Side Volleyball Sectional.

The Lady Vikings, 19-13, will play Jay County on Saturday, Oct. 20, in second round action after nipping the Lady Spartans, 17-15, in the fifth and deciding game of their match.

After dropping the first game, 20-25, Huntington North nipped Homestead, 26-24, in the second game to knot things at 1-all. HNHS went back down 1-2 when it fell to Homestead, 22-25, in the third game. The Lady Vikings fought back into a tie at 2-all with a 25-16 win in the fourth game.

Jay County defeated New Haven in four games to advance on.

Huntington North and Jay County will meet at 11 a.m. Fort Wayne Wayne and South Side, which drew the first round byes, will meet at 12:30 p.m.

The championship game is set for 6 p.m.
