The Huntington North High School boy's varsity basketball team couldn't quite come back from an 18-point deficit in the third quarter and lost to New Haven, 58-54, in the Super Teams Shootout on Tuesday, Jan. 1, at the Fort Wayne Coliseum.
The Vikings, 7-5, were down 46-28 in the third quarter but outscored New Haven 26-12 the rest of the way to throw a major scare into the 4-3 Bulldogs.
Noah Reed banged in a game-high 22 points and Kalvin Miller added 19 points, including five three-pointers, to lead the Vikings. Kyle Platt added 13 points and a team-high eight rebounds.
The Vikings were on the short end of a 19-13 score at the end of the first quarter, and trailed at halftime, 31-22. After falling behind by 18 in the third quarter, they closed the gap to eight points at 46-38 by the end of the frame.
The Bulldogs were led by V.J. Beachem with 16 points, Jordan Hogue with 13 points and Jabar Ray with 12. Beachem also had a game-high 10 rebounds.
The Vikings only hit 18 of 55 shots from the field for 32.7 percent.
Platt also had four steals in the contest for HNHS.
