HU men can’t catch up in second half

A big run by visiting Grace College ended the first half of its game with the Huntington University men's basketball team on Saturday, Jan. 26, and the Foresters weren't able to catch back up in the second, losing 81-75.

The Foresters led the majority of the first half, but momentum swung the Lancers' way when they ripped off a 12-0 run with just over three minutes remaining in the half to break a 32-32 tie and go to the locker room with a 44-32 advantage.

Huntington reduced Grace's lead from 10 to three with a 7-0 burst at the 5:21 mark in the second half, but that's all the closer it would get.

Shane Merryman scored 24 points for the Foresters, 12-12, 3-9 in the Crossroads League. The junior had a hot shooting hand, making 10 of 16 shots, including 4 of 4 from beyond the arc.

T.J. Short contributed 17 points to the team's offensive effort, Alec Peterson produced 12 and Ryan Boester and Colin Featherston each put in 10.

Greg Miller led the Lancers with 25 points on 11 for 17 shooting and 10 rebounds. Karl Columbus added 17 points to Grace's cause, Elliot Smith tallied 11 and Bruce Grimm Jr. tossed up 10.

Both teams shot over 50 percent for the game, with Grace's 53.3 on 32 of 60 shooting slightly edging Huntington's 50.9 on a 27 of 53 effort.
