G. Spahr's record leads HU trackwomen to fourth at DePauw

Sparked by Gretchen Spahr's school record in the 5,000-meter run, the Huntington University women's track and field team finished fourth out of 12 teams with 96 points at the DePauw Indoor Classic on Saturday, Feb. 16.

Spahr, a sophomore from Huntington, ran a time of 18:10.46 in the 5,000-meter run, which not only secured her second place, but a spot in the Huntington record books, as her time broke the old record by over 25 seconds, and a place at the NAIA Indoor Championships.

Erin Rockney earned 12 points individually for the Foresters, finishing second in the 1,000-meter run in 3:30.21 and fifth in the mile run in 5:43.29.

Four Foresters brought home thirdplace finishes as Shana Christian set a new personal record in the 400-meter dash in 1:02.21, Elizabeth Ellis ran a 2:06.30 in the 600-meter run, Hannah Moore finished the 5,000-meter run in 19:36.35 and Heather Johnson made a leap of 9-06.00 in the pole vault, good for a personal record.

Other points for Huntington came from Brianna Gregory's seventh place finish in the 200-meter dash in 28.35; Kim Elser's sixth place finish in the 400-meter dash in 1:10.05, a personal record; Krista Wood's fourth place in the mile run in 5:32.46; Natalie Spahr's fifth place finish in the 3,000-meter run in a personal record 11:11.05; Lindsay Schroeder's fourth place finish in pole vault with a personal record 9-06.0; Darion Caldwell's eighth place finish in long jump with a 13-09.50; and Ashley Williams' fourth place shot put finish with a 33-02.75, a personal record, and sixth-place weight throw finish with a 35-10.25.

Bellarmine captured the title with 166.5 points, followed by DePauw with 130.5 and Taylor with 112.
