Rentschler, Mettler both qualify twice for boys’ track regional

Senior Jon Rentschler and junior Charles Mettler each qualified twice for regional competition by placing in the top four in their events at the Fort Wayne Wayne Track and Field Sectional on Thursday, May 16.

Rentschler placed second in the discus with a throw of 140-7 and third in the shot put with a heave of 48-11, while Mettler was runner-up in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 4:37.55 and third in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 10:10.79.

Senior Cordell Lewis in the 800-meter run and sophomore pole vaulter Houston Lehman also qualified to move on, as did the Vikings' 400-meter relay team of Andrew Spahr, Andrew Sizemore, Drew Fawcett and Jake Shaw.

Lewis placed third in 2:00.50 to punch his ticket to regional, while Lehman soared 12-0 to get the final placing in the pole vault.

The relay quartet clocked in at :45.02 for its qualification.

The Vikings as a team placed third with 70 points. Homestead won the meet with 151 points and Wayne was second among the 11 schools with 136 points.

The Vikings' Jordan Utter missed qualifying in the 400-meter dash by .11 seconds as he finished fifth in :52.68. Jacob Miller in the 3,200 also placed fifth to just miss out, as did the Vikings' 1,600-meter relay team.

Regional competition is Thursday, May 23, again at Wayne.
