Anderson double-dips Vikings in regular season finale

The Huntington North High School varsity baseball team suffered a doubleheader loss to host Anderson, 6-2, 3-2, in its regular season finale on Saturday, May 18.

In the second game, the Indians ended a scoreless tie by plating one in the top of the fourth. Although the Vikings responded with two of their own in the fifth to wrest the lead, Anderson snatched the advantage right back in the sixth with a pair of scores, taking the game to its final tally.

Evan Brown led Huntington North, 16-9, 9-5 in the North Central Conference, with a hit and two runs batted in. Devon Goelz's two hits were a team-high and a third of its six hits overall.

Eddie Boner and Peyton Newsom paced Anderson, 18-5, 10-4 in the NCC, with two hits and an RBI each, with the latter hitting a home run.

Brown handled pitching duties for the Vikings, ceding six hits and two earned runs in 5.1 innings of work to take the loss.

Quinton Smith pitched 1.2 scoreless innings of relief with three strikeouts.

Jerred Quartier got the win for the Indians by pitching a complete game with six hits, four strikeouts and no earned runs.

In the first game, Huntington North took a 1-0 lead at the top of the fifth, but its hopes were crushed when Anderson responded with five runs in its half of the frame.

The Vikings banged out 11 hits, but the offensive production was for naught as 14 got left on base.

Heaston Schwob and Goelz each had three hits and a run scored, with the former adding an RBI.

Curtis Wilson single-handedly outperformed Huntington North on offense, notching three RBI, two hits and a run.

Wilson also got the win on the mound for Anderson, limiting the Vikings to just a single earned run in six innings.

Connor West got the loss for Huntington North, surrendering eight hits and four earned runs in six innings.
