HU singles lead way over IU East in women's net play

Highlighted by a whitewash win at third singles, the Huntington University women's tennis team won five of six singles matches on the way to a 6-3 win over host IU East on Saturday, Sept. 21.

Freshman Morgan Bemisderfer earned the shutout win, 6-0, 6-0, over Chelsea Helms as HU improved to 4-5, 3-4 in Crossroads League play.

Cassie Kasicki at first singles defeated Paige Froman, 6-2, 6-2, Celine Rongos at second singles was a 6-2, 6-0 winner over Cheltsi Hinners and Jessica Abel at fifth singles downed Brittany Hethcox, 6-0, 6-3. Ciara Smith got the final singles win by defeating Alex Estes, 6-1, 6-1, at sixth singles.

Kasicki and Bemisderfer teamed at No. 1 doubles for an 8-4 win over Froman and Helms.

Katie Johnson at fourth singles got tagged with the lone singles loss for HU, falling to Kristian Ketron, 1-6, 4-6.

In doubles, Rongos and Johnson lost 7-9 to Hinners and Ketron at No. 2, and Abel and Stacie Cressman took a 1-8 loss to Hethcox and Jordyn Bowman at No. 3.
