Schenkel's twin wins not nearly enough for HNHS girl swimmers
Wednesday, December 4, 2013 7:33 AM
Katie Schenkel had two individual wins and was part of a winning relay team, but host Oak Hill overpowered the Huntington North High School girls' swim team, 122-61, on Tuesday, Dec. 3.
Schenkel, a junior, captured the 200-yard individual medley in 2:29.49 and came back to win the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:18.68. She started the meet off by teaming with Maggie Warpup, Emma Helmich and Cassy Lange to win the 200-yard medley relay in 2:04.31.
Unfortunately for HNHS, those were the only three wins it was able to garner, and Oak Hill added to its wins with depth in every event for additional points.
Lange added a pair of seconds to the HNHS cause, placing runner-up in the 100-yard freestyle and the 100-yard backstroke. Helmich was runner-up in the 100-yard butterfly and Warpup was second in the 500-yard freestyle.
Warpup also got third place in the 50-yard freestyle.
