HU men bowlers win first-ever tourney

The Huntington University men's bowling team made history as it notched the program's first win since its inception last year, capturing the 2013 Cardinal Baker Classic title in competition spanning Saturday, Dec. 7, to Sunday, Dec. 8.

Bowling a total of 40 Baker games on demanding lane conditions throughout the weekend at Munsee Lanes in Muncie, the Foresters dropped as low as fourth in the standings before mounting a comeback in the final four Baker games, 146-266-204-183, to tally 6,983 pins and take top honors.

"It was an awesome way to finish and win a tournament and lots of fun to watch," said Coach Jim Bischoff. "The guys were amazing all weekend and just kept fighting."

Team members included Tyler Neff, Connor Brown, Seth Walker, Joe Miller, James Knapp and Derek Beckler.

Oberlin took second with 6,956 pins followed by Bowling Green, 6,890; IU, 6,834; Ball State, 6,803; and Miami of Ohio, 5,781.

The men's junior varsity team finished second with 6,346 pins, behind Bowling Green with 6,688 and ahead of IU with 5,974 and Oberlin 5,040.
