HU women finish fifth at own invite

The Huntington University women's track and field team took fifth at its own invitational on Saturday, April 5.
The Foresters' highlight of the day came from Krista Wood, who produced the team's lone top finish, running the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 11:26.06. The sophomore's performance broke the school record by nearly seven seconds and landed her a spot at the 2014 NAIA Outdoor Track and Field Championships slated for May 22 to 24.
Shana Christian ran a 1:02.79 in the 400-meter dash to finish third while Heather Johnson took fourth in pole vault with a leap of 2.75 meters and the same place in javelin with a toss of 30.02 meters.
Fifth place finishes came from Christine Sparks in the 800 and 1,500-meter runs, crossing the line in 2:25.64 and 4:55.52, respectively; Brianna Gregory with a clocking of :26.68 in the 200-meter dash and a 4.82-meter bound in long jump; and Christina Hicks with a leap of 10.36 meters in triple jump.
Indiana Wesleyan dominated the field with 254.50 points, followed by Spring Arbor's 107, Defiance's 98, Grace's 84, Huntington's 83, Trinity Christian's 63.50 and Manchester's 42.
