Lady Vikes third in triangular with Homestead, Northrop

The Huntington North High School girls' varsity track and field team produced four winners, but it wasn't enough against Homestead and host Northrop as the Lady Vikings came in third on Wednesday, April 9.

Seniors Paige Coolman, Lindsey Foster and Maddie Klender and sophomore Hannah Stoffel earned the first place honors for Coach Kris Teusch's squad, which tallied 39 points to the Spartans' winning register of 66, which just edged out the Bruins' 62.

Coolman claimed top honors in discus with a toss of 103-6, while Klender achieved her gold with a heave of 37-25 in shot put, an event in which Huntington North recorded a top three sweep as Lauren Sands added second place and Coolman chalked up third.

Foster won long jump with a leap of 17-4.5 and Stoffel topped the 800-meter run with a 2:27.6 to round out Huntington North's winners.

Sophomore Marissa Jamison was runner-up in the 1,600-meter run, crossing the line in 5:53.0. The 400-meter relay team also got a runner-up spot, with its time of :55.1.

Allie Christian, a sophomore, added points in both hurdling events, finishing third in the 300 meters in :53.2 and fourth in the 100 meters in :17.8. Fellow sophomore Alexis Aldred placed fourth in the former event in :53.6.

Seniors Jamie Feller and Josie Beaver tied for third in high jump with 4-6 efforts and Foster came in fourth in the 400-meter dash with a 1:03.2 to complete the Lady Vikings' point-getters.

The Huntington North junior varsity also finished third, totaling 19.5 points to Homestead's 89.5 and Northrop's 34.

Sophomore Abbey Ness and freshman Savanna Scott recorded the Lady Vikings' lone win, tying for first in high jump with leaps of 4-2.
