HU diamond men sweep Goshen

A comeback win followed by a laugher gave the Huntington University baseball team a doubleheader sweep of Goshen on Tuesday, April 22.

The Foresters improved to 22-20 overall and 16-12 in the Crossroads League with wins of 10-6 and 11-1.

The Foresters raked Goshen pitching for all 10 runs in the final three innings of the opener to erase a 4-0 Maple Leaf lead. They tallied four runs in the sixth inning and tacked on another five in the seventh.

Avery Sneed hit his first home run of the season among three hits and had three runs batted in to lead the HU offense. Dalton Combs added two hits and three ribbies, Jared Green had two hits and an RBI and Michael Crowley added two RBI.

Andy Roser earned his first mound win for HU, throwing the final 4.2 innings and giving up four hits, two runs, one earned, with two strikeouts and four walks. John Ripke pitched the first 2.1 frames, giving up four earned runs on seven hits with two Ks and three walks.

Derek McKinney had a masterful performance on the mound to help HU in the nightcap, hurling six scoreless innings before finally giving up a solo tally in the seventh. He allowed seven hits, one run and a walk while striking out two.

His hitting mates staked him to a 1-0 lead in the second, putting up twin tallies in both the third and fourth innings, another singleton in the fifth and then rubbed it in with four runs in the seventh inning.

Dylan Henricks and Blake Ayers each had three of the Foresters' 13 hits, and Shea Beauchamp and Crowley added two apiece. Ayers had two ribbies.
