Late splurge gives HU softball team big win over Goshen

The Huntington University softball team turned a 1-1 tie into a 9-1 win with eight runs in the final two innings to defeat host Goshen on Tuesday, April 22.

Goshen forfeited the second game of the doubleheader due to finals.

Katie DePew and Katie Knous triggered a five-run fifth inning and a three-run sixth inning to give HU, 23-16 overall and 16-10 in the Crossroads League, the win in the opener. Knous smacked a two-run double and Depew also had a run-scoring hit in the fifth, then in the sixth Knouse plated two more runs and DePew got in the other.

Knous finished with four RBI on the day in support of hurler Emily Puterbaugh, who allowed just two hits and one run while striking out eight for the mound win, her seventh in 12 decisions.
