Viking diamond men light up Eastbrook, 18-3

The Huntington North High School varsity baseball team lit up visiting Eastbrook, 18-3, on Wednesday, April 30.

The Vikings, 9-3, banged out 13 hits against the Panthers and led 4-0 after the first inning, then poured on seven runs in each of the next two frames to enjoy an 18-0 advantage.

Seniors Devon Goelz and Mitch Hughes and junior Caleb Landrum led Huntington North's offensive fireworks show, driving home three runs apiece. Senior Austin Hale, junior Derek Snyder and sophomore Thomas Parker supplied two hits apiece, with Snyder also scoring a game-high three runs.

Hale picked up the win on the mound for Coach Brian Abbott's squad, striking out six over four innings while yielding only two hits and as many runs.

Eastbrook eventually got on the board with two scores in the fourth inning and another in the fifth.

Goelz hit a two-run double in the Vikes' big second inning, and Hughes had a run-scoring triple to highlight the big third inning for the Vikes.

Evan Harrison took the loss for the Panthers, 5-9, after surrendering eight base pokes and 11 runs in 1.1 innings.

Nathan Shaw led Eastbrook's offensive effort with a trio of hits and a run batted in.
