HU offense goes quiet in season-ending loss to Woods at NAIA

After battering fourth-ranked Olivet Nazarene pitching for 10 runs on Monday, the Huntington University softball team offense went quiet as the Foresters lost to 19th-ranked William Woods University, 9-1, in six inning on Tuesday, May 13, in the NAIA National tournament.

Finishing with a record of 31-23 on the season, HU got only three hits, and scored its only run due to a William Woods error. That run tied the game at 1-1, but it was all Woods after that as the Owls tallied a run in the fourth inning, two more in the fifth and five more in the sixth to end the game an inning early on the eight-run rule.

Woods throttled HU pitching for 13 hits on the day, nine against starter and loser Emily Puterbaugh, who gave up four earned runs in five innings, with two strikeouts and three walks.

HU's only run came in the third when Natalie McGuire drew a walk, moved to second and third on a sacrifice and groundout, respectively, and came home on a Woods error.
