HNHS netgirls notch third in row in win over Homestead

Kylie Frederick outlasted her opponent at No. 1 singles to help the Huntington North High School varsity tennis team edge visiting Homestead, 3-2, on Wednesday, May 14.

After suffering a 2-6 defeat in the first set to the Lady Spartans' Jenay Andrews, Frederick, a junior, evened things upon battling to a 7-6 victory in the second and then took the match with a 6-1 decision in the third.

The Lady Vikings, 9-6, swept doubles play to pick up the rest of their wins. Junior Ana Eckert and sophomore Emily Karst topped Annie Rumsey and Allie Nelson, 6-2, 6-4, in the first match while senior Alisha Leffler and sophomore Sarah Fryman dispatched Miranda Gidley and Katie Stephens, 6-0, 6-3, in the second.

Senior Casey Richman fell to Andrea Stephens at second singles, 2-6, 1-6, and junior Emily Eherenman lost 0-6, 1-6 to Morgan Caudill in the third match to round out Huntington North's day.

The Lady Viking junior varsity went down, 1-3.

Freshman Katie Hunt topped her opponent, 6-2, to record the lone win for the squad, 6-8.
