Second quarter dooms Lady Vikes at Logansport

A disastrous second quarter cost the Huntington North High School girls' varsity basketball team as it lost to host Logansport, 56-42, on Saturday, Jan. 10.

The Lady Vikes, 4-8, took a 14-10 lead after one quarter of play, but then were outscored 16-2 in the second quarter and never recovered. The Lady Berries stretched the lead to 39-26 after three quarters.

Taylor Foley led HNHS with 13 points and nine rebounds, and Hayley Bradford added nine points and three assists. Mariah Town chipped in with six rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Jasmine Perry led Logansport with 28 points.

The Lady Vikes shot 33.3 percent from the field, hitting 13 of 39 shots, and 35 percent from the three-point line.

The junior varsity team edged Logansport, 31-27, to run its record to 9-3.

Jericho Parrett scored 13 points, Tajsha Shrock recorded eight points and a team-high 12 rebounds and Courtney Carpenter added seven points and three rebounds. Cora Frame had three assists.

Huntington North shot 35.7 percent from the field and out rebounded their opponents 37-34.

In freshman action, the Lady Vikes dominated their counterparts, 38-11, and improved to 10-2 on the season.
Taylor Pursiful and Alyssa Grabner each had 10 points.

The varsity and junior varsity teams play at Jay County Tuesday night, Jan. 13. The freshman play at Kokomo tonight, Monday, Jan. 12.
