Kyle, Benge, Shively team up to lead HU men past Spring Arbor

Kevin Kyle, Kyle Benge and Tyler Shively combined for 61 points to lead the Huntington University men's basketball team to an 87-75 win over visiting Spring Arbor on Saturday, Feb. 14.

Kyle topped all scorers with 22 points to help HU move to 18-10 overall and 7-7 in the Mid-Central College Conference. Benge pumped in 20 and Shively added 19.

Huntington hit 29 of 53 from the field for 54.7 percent, including 7 of 16 from 3-point range.

HU found itself on the bottom end of a 12-6 score after the first couple of minutes of play, but took the lead for good on an offensive rebound basket by Alex Nafziger at 11:18. That bucket started a 12-0 run for the Foresters and they went into the half with a 44-30 cushion.

The Foresters pushed the lead to 22 points with just over 14 minutes to play, but the Cougars' Jared List singlehandledly dragged his team back into the contest by drilling five 3-pointers in the next 4:30 to lead a 22-4 Spring Arbor run. The contest was still a four-point game when HU used an 8-1 run to seal the victory.

Kyle led HU with 10 rebounds, and Benge added 10 assists to his scoring total.

List led Spring Arbor with 21 points.
