Kenneth D. Baker

Kenneth Dale Baker, 70, of Andrews, died Dec. 4, 2008, at 4:35 p.m. at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne.

Mr. Baker was a lifelong resident of Huntington County. He graduated from Union Township High School in 1956, earned a bachelor of science degree in 1960 and a master's degree in education in 1961, both from Purdue University, and graduated magna cum laude from Ivy Tech Community College in 1996, earning an associate's degree in computer information systems. He taught GED classes at the Huntington County Jail, worked at Huntington Orchards, taught agriculture in Indiana for 10 years, and retired from farming in Polk Township in 1998. He was a member of the Huntington Church of the Brethren, where he served on the church board. He had also worked for a sister church in Tisma, Nicaragua. He was a past president of the Andrews Lions Club and was a genealogist.

He was born March 27, 1938, in Huntington County, to Dale Leroy and Pauline Margaret Sunderman Baker. He married Carole June Hartle on June 16, 1968, in Huntington. His wife survives.

Also surviving are a son, Sean Matthew Baker, of Fort Wayne; a daughter, Julie Ann Brin, of Park City, KS; a brother, John L. Baker, of Huntington; two sisters, Janet Albertson, of Fort Wayne, and Sara Braun, of Huntington; and three grandchildren.
A funeral service was held Dec. 9, 2008, at the Huntington Church of the Brethren with Rev. Barry Belknap, Rev. Larry Ray and Rev. Wayne Lee officiating. Burial was at Star of Hope Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Tree of Life Pre-School in Tisma, Nicaragua, in care of Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 W. Park Drive, Huntington, IN 46750.
