Ham, Eckert lead HN golf to sectional title

Led by medalist Laura Ham and runner-up Amara Eckert, the Huntington North High School girls’ golf team won its own sectional on Saturday, Sept. 16, at Norwood Golf Course.

Ham and Eckert, both juniors, each carded an 82. They settled the deadlock in a playoff, doing so alongside Madison-Grant’s Gabby Rahrar, who also posted an 82.

The Lady Vikings finished with a score of 346. Senior Jaclyn Boyd placed third for the team with an 85 while junior Crosley Stanley took fourth with a 98. Junior Danielle Gonser shot a non-scoring 97.

Huntington North advances to the East Noble Regional, set for Saturday, Sept. 23, at Noble Hawk Golf Links, in Kendallville.

Also advancing are Manchester, with a 363, and Madison-Grant, with a 373.

Other competitors at the sectional included Northfield, 385; Eastbrook, 406; Wabash, 409; Oak Hill, 427; Marion, 430; and Mississinewa, 430.

Golfers advancing without a team include Eastbrook’s Jenna Boucher, 86; Wabash’s Bella Carillo, 87; and Eastbrook’s Haylee Bright, 89.
