Run, walk, ride set for Vets’ Day

A 5K run, walk and bike ride will be held on Veterans Day, Nov. 11, to raise funds to expand the war memorial at Huntington’s Memorial Park.

The event begins at 10 a.m. on Jefferson Street at MacGahan Street. Runners will lead the Veterans Day parade down Jefferson Street and out West Park Drive.

Runners can register online at runrace.net and will be guaranteed a race shirt. The race day registration fee is higher and a shirt is not guaranteed.

Money raised will go toward the creation of an Iwo Jima memorial which will replicate the existing memorial in Washington, DC, on a smaller scale. The memorial will be placed at Memorial Park.

Sponsorships for the event are available. Checks can be mailed to Huntington Veterans Day 5K Inc., 808 Keswick Drive, Huntington, IN 46750.

The event is being coordinated by John Shortridge, Kyle Hoopingarner, Seth Marshall and Paula Weill.
