Strong first half propels HU soccermen to win

A strong first half propelled the Huntington University men’s soccer team to a 4-0 victory over visiting Defiance College on Wednesday, Sept. 20.

The Foresters tallied their quartet of goals in the opening stanza to build an impressive lead that would stick for their fourth win against two losses and as many ties.

Aaron Harting got the scoring started for Huntington at the game’s 2:08 mark, with Noah Fleming assisting. Ty Sproat found the back of the net just under six minutes later for the hosts, taking a pass from Noah Stanford. Fleming got in on the scoring at the 22:32 mark while Hayden Suter, off an assist from Isaac Jones, tallied a goal in the 38th minute to round out the Foresters’ big half.

Huntington finished with 21 shots, 13 of which were on goal. Harting logged three of those shots on frame while Fleming and Sproat both registered two.

Troy Hester and Blake Cooke split goalkeeping duties for the Foresters, with Hester spending 62:47 before the net and Cooke logging 27:13. Each keeper recorded a save.
