Sweeping doubles and taking five of six singles matches, the Huntington University men’s tennis team rocked visiting Spring Arbor University 8-1, on Tuesday, Sept. 26.
The Foresters improved to 7-3 overall, 6-2 in the Crossroads League.
Ignacio Poncio and Mariano Echevarria at first doubles topped Nick Romano and Jacob Engle, 8-4; Rodrigo Manzo and Giovanni Martinez at second doubles beat Alex Reinbold and Ryan MacLean, 8-6; and Luke Buttermore and Jacob Shelton at third singles handled Josh Scott and Thomas Hall, 8-6.
In singles play, Poncio had to go to a tie-breaker to defeat Romano, 7-5, 3-6 (10-4), at No. 1; Manzo defeated Reinbold, 6-1, 6-4, at No. 2; and Martinez downed MacLean at No. 3, 7-6, 6-2. Shelton at fourth singles defeated Connor Mogle, 6-3, 6-4, and Brody Worl at sixth singles beat Sam Head, 6-0, 6-4.
