HU soccermen draw with IWU

The Huntington University men’s soccer team played to a 2-2 tie with visiting Indiana Wesleyan University on Saturday, Sept. 30.

The Foresters tallied both of their goals in the first half. Sophomore Bradey Gerke gave the hosts the lead, 1-0, with his score at the 15:36 mark. After a Wildcat goal, Huntington went back in front when junior Matheus Louzada burned the Wesleyan defense and passed to junior Ty Sproat, who found back netting for his third goal of the season.

The Wildcats managed to score the equalizing goal in the second half, which would prove to be the contest’s final goal, with neither squad locating the back of the net in either of the two overtime periods.

With the tie, Huntington’s record stands at 4-2-3, 0-0-1 in Crossroads League action. Wesleyan’s record is 3-4-2, 0-0-1 in conference.

The Foresters had plenty of scoring opportunities, racking up 16 shots, 11 of which were on goal. Gerke accounted for three of those scoring looks while Sproat, Louzada and Guilherme Lins Souza were each responsible for two.

Senior Troy Hester went the distance in goal for Huntington, allowing the two scores while recording three saves.
