Local karate students earn accolades in tourney

Members of Genbu-Kai Karate of Indiana in Huntington participated in the Back To School Brawl Tournament in Huntington on Sept. 9. The group won the most representative school award.

Results of Genbu-Kai of Indiana’s competitors are below:

• Mason Payton – Third place, 7-8 year old novice kata.

• Lextin Keefer– Third place, 7-8 year old intermediate kata.

• Jaiden Kirk – First place, 9-10 year old advanced kata; and second place, 9-10 year old advanced kobudo kata.

• Aiden Miller – First place, 11-12 year old novice kata.

• Nathan Mygrant – First place, 13-14 year old novice kata.

• Rachel McGregor – Third place, adult novice kata.

• Kevin McGregor – First place, adult intermediate kata; first place, adult intermediate kobudo kata; grand champion, adult kata; and grand champion, adult kobuo kata.

• Gretchen Schaadt – Fifth place, adult novice kata.

• Andy Norman – Second place, adult intermediate kata; and second place, adult intermediate kobudo kata.

• Sensei Dawn Anderson – First place, black belt women kata; and first place, black belt women kobudo kata.
