HU spikers rally past Goshen in four

After getting edged in the opening set, the Huntington University volleyball team bounced back with three consecutive wins to dispatch host Goshen College, 3-1, on Wednesday, Oct. 11.

Following a 22-25 defeat, the Foresters reeled off victories of 25-22, 25-17, 25-14 to improve to 11-13, 6-7 in Crossroads League play.

Senior Josie Beaver and junior Tailor Schultheis led Huntington to the win with contributions on offense and defense. In addition to racking up 11 kills apiece, Beaver had a hand in five blocks while Schultheis assisted on four. Freshman Lauren Cresse also played a solid all-around game, producing nine kills while logging a solo block and assisting on four others.

Senior Emily Hubby and junior Breanna Levings facilitated the Foresters’ offensive effort with 21 and 17 assists, respectively.

On the defensive side, senior Kate Cobb tallied 18 digs for Huntington. Senior Mikayla Carpenter generated 16 while freshman Ariene Butler amassed 11.

Goshen, 10-13, 3-8 in league play, got eight kills from Lindsay McQuinn, 15 assists from Ally Roehr and 16 digs from MacKinnon Tracy.
