Taylor straight-sets HU spikers

The Huntington University volleyball team lost in straight sets, 0-3, to visiting Taylor University on Wednesday, Oct. 18.

The match was closer than the final score would indicate, with the Foresters losing two of the three sets by a combined five points. One of those frames was the first, which saw Huntington get edged, 23-25. After falling 14-25 in the second, the hosts sustained another narrow defeat in the third, 22-25, to round out the match.

The Foresters, 12-17, 6-8 in the Crossroads League, got 12 kills from junior Tailor Schultheis. Senior Danielle Gurwell chipped in nine kills while senior Josie Beaver added eight.

Freshman Jenna Tacosik supported their efforts with 34 assists.

Defensively, senior Kate Cobb tallied 20 digs. Tacosik and senior Mikayla Carpenter each logged 10.

Taylor was led by Rachel Bouma, who notched 12 kills. Haley Harrell supplied 35 assists while Samantha Korn produced 21 digs for the Trojans, who improve to 18-14, 8-7 in league play.
