American Legion Post 160 to have virtual reality of D.C. vets memorials

Visitors to the Veterans Day celebration at American Legion Post 160, in Roanoke, can view the veterans’ memorials in Washington, DC, through a set of virtual reality goggles.

The Veterans Day celebration will take place on Saturday, Nov. 11, starting at 5 p.m.

Diamond Dave will entertain from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. with live swing music and oldies. Food will be available.

The sights that can be viewed through the VR goggles are the same as those seen by veterans who have participated on Honor Flights to Washington, DC.

The Roanoke Legion helped fund the purchase of the goggles by the Honor Flight organization, primarily so that veterans who are not physically able to participate in one of the flights can have the experience of seeing the monuments.

Veterans attending the event in Roanoke will have first priority to use the goggles, but the experience will also be open to others.

The Veterans Day celebration in Roanoke is open to the public and is family friendly.

American Legion Post 160 is at 1122 N. Main St., Roanoke.
