Lady Vikes stick close but lose to Carroll

The Huntington North High School girls’ varsity basketball team stuck with host Carroll for most of the game but couldn’t quite get it done in a 61-51 defeat on Tuesday, Nov. 14.

The Lady Vikings, 1-2, trailed only 12-10 after the first quarter and went into the break at halftime down by just one at 27-26. The Lady Chargers gave themselves some breathing room with a four-point advantage in the third frame to widen the score to 43-38 heading into the final frame.

Junior Maddy Robrock paced the Lady Vikes’ efforts with 18 points and six rebounds. Rileigh Johnson had nine points and a team-leading 10 rebounds, and guards Karmen Koch and Hollyn Anderson each added eight points.

Macy Miller scored 16 points to lead three Lady Chargers in double figures. Kelli Damman and Laney Steckler each added 11 points.

Both teams shot well for the night. Carroll hit 20 of 37 field goal tries for 54.1 percent and was perfect at the free line line in 10 tries, while HNHS hit 16 of 30 field goal attempts for 53.3 percent and went 16 of 20 at the stripe for 80 percent.

Anderson had four assists for the Lady Vikes and Koch added three.

HNHS lost the junior varsity game, 43-11.

Katelynn Arnold scored six points to lead HNHS.
