Lady Vikes get out to big lead, cruise past Whitko

The Huntington North high School girls’ varsity basketball team jumped off to an 18-4 lead after the first quarter and never looked back in a 44-27 win over host Whitko on Friday, Nov. 17.

The Lady Vikings, 2-2, slowed down on offense after the big first quarter, but their defense stayed stingy as Whitko scored only four more points in the second quarter, had seven in the third and finally got to double figures with 12 in the fourth. The Lady Vikings led 27-8 at halftime and 34-15 after three quarters of play.

Rileigh Johnson led the way for HNHS with 15 points and seven rebounds, while Maddy Robrock had another double-double outing with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Karmen Koch tossed in nine points.

Hollyn Anderson passed out six assists and Johnson had three.

Whitko, 1-5, was led by Ellie Snep with 19 points.

The Lady Vikes hit 20 of 50 shots from the field for 40 percent and added a 3 of 7 mark at the free-throw line for 42.8 percent.

The Lady Wildcats connected on 12 of 33 field goal tries for 36.3 percent. They went to the stripe nine times and hit five for 55.5 percent.

Huntington North won the junior varsity tilt, 45-13, behind Bayleigh Doubles’s 11 points and eight from Kyler Hoopingarner.
