HU men win in OT in Hoops for Hope Tourney second game

The Huntington University men’s basketball team topped Grace Bible College in overtime, 79-71, on the second day of the Terry Polston Hoops for Hope Tournament on Saturday, Nov. 18, at Grace College.

The opening half saw the Foresters craft a 39-30 halftime lead, which the Tigers whittled away in the second stanza, tying the game up at 65 by the end of regulation. In the bonus period, however, Huntington held Grace Bible to just six points while tossing in 14 of its own to take the game.

The Foresters, 4-4, were led by junior Tyler Arens, who scored 18 points. Sophomores Konner Platt and Andrew Yoder both tallied 13 points. Seniors Devon Merder and Mike Bush each tossed in 10 points.

Bush also dished out 14 assists to achieve his first double-double of the season.

Arens, Merder and senior Kyle Platt grabbed seven rebounds apiece to give Huntington a 38-37 edge on the glass.

The Foresters shot 30 of 67 from the field for 44.8 percent. They added six points in 14 attempts at the free throw line for 42.9 percent.

Grace Bible, 4-5, connected on 30 of 71 field goal attempts for 42.3 percent and 4 of 9 freebie tries for 44.4 percent.
