Huntington library branch lists Christmas activities

An “Elves and the Shoemaker” winter extravaganza, a visit by Santa Claus, free gift-wrapping and more events are planned at the Huntington Branch of the Huntington City-Township Public Library for December.

Each day in December the Huntington library will have crafts and activities for all ages. There will be something new to make each week, including ornaments, cards, holiday garland, coupon books, gift tags and thank you notes.

There will also be movies every day at 1 p.m. during Huntington County Community Schools winter break. Huntington library patrons can also visit free wrapping paper stations from Dec. 1 to Dec. 23 to wrap their gifts with the library’s supplies. No sign-up is needed.

Santa Claus will once again be making a special stop at the library during the holiday season. On Saturday, Dec. 9, at 10 a.m., Santa will be at the Huntington branch for a holiday-themed story and sing-along session for children ages 3 to 7. Parents are invited to bring their cameras to take pictures of their child with Santa. No registration is required.

The library will present its holiday program, “The Elves and the Shoemaker,” on Tuesday, Dec. 19, at 6:30 p.m. at the main library in Huntington. Based on the Jim LaMarche retelling of “The Elves and the Shoemaker,” about a poor shoemaker who becomes successful with the help of two elves who finish making his shoes during the night, the program will include a story time, a shoe matching game, information about the original German folkbtale, and an elf craft. The event is free, and no registration is required.
