R. Johnson leads Lady Vikes over Manchester

Rileigh Johnson had 13 points, eight rebounds and five assists to lead the Huntington North High School girls’ varsity basketball team to a 50-37 win over visiting Manchester on Tuesday, Dec. 5.

The Lady Vikings, 4-5, got out to a 17-13 lead after the first quarter and upped the margin to 30-17 by halftime. The Lady Squires cut the margin to 36-28 after three quarters but HNHS held on and expanded the lead in the final frame.

Maddy Robrock chipped in with 12 points and seven rebounds, and Karmen Koch and Hollyn Anderson each scored eight points.

Johnson, a senior, hit 5 of 6 shots from the field -- including all three of her three-point attempts, to lead the Lady Vikes to a 20 of 36, 55.6 percent shooting effort. The Lady Vikes hit 7 of 10 from the foul line for 70 percent.

Kennedy Fierstos led Manchester, 4-6, with 13 points.

Manchester hit jjust 15 of 48 field goal attempts for 31.3 percent and only went to the line four times, hitting two for 50 percent.

Huntington North lost the junior varsity tilt, 23-22.

Katelynn Arnold scored 12 points to lead the Lady Vikes.
