Vikings back on winning track with triumph over Kokomo

Zach Daugherty scored 13 points and Sawyer Stoltz added 12 points as the Huntington North High School boys’ varsity basketball team downed host Kokomo, 47-35 on Saturday, Dec. 16.
The Vikings jumped off to a 13-7 after the first quarter of play and led at halftime, 21-17. A 14-6 edge in the third quarter had them ahead by their largest margin at 35-23 entering the final frame on the way to their sixth win against just one loss.
Hank Pulver and Mitch Geller each added seven points and Trey Williams notched six for the Vikes, who hit 16 of 32 shots from the field for an even 50 percent. They connected on 6 of 14 shots from three-point land for 42.9 percent and hit 9 of 12 free throws for 75 percent.
Trajan Deckard led Kokomo, 2-3, with a game-high 17 points. Anthony Barnard added 10 point.
Kokomo struggled from the field, hitting only 13 of 38 shots for 34.2 percent. The Wildkats added 7 of 8 free throws made for 87.5 percent.
The Vikings won the battle of the boards, 27-16. Geller had eight rebounds and Stoltz added six.
Geller also had five assists and two steals.
The HNHS junior varsity lost, 53-33, to drop to 3-4 on the season.
Garrett Trout, Jordan Hollowell and Sam Thompson each had four points.
